NHL Draft: European Defense

Johannes Johannesen (D) (150 – 200)

  • The right hand puck moving d-man was ranked 68th by Central Scouting.  HFBoards: Physically strong defenseman with a modern style of play, very good reading of the game.

Livio Stadler (D) (150 – 200)

  • The Draft Analyst:  Meshed well with Switzerland’s skill forwards, who always seemed to be looking for him either trailing a play or sneaking into the high slot. He’s got great offensive instincts, something we didn’t see much of while he served as a depth defenseman at the 2015 U18’s last April. The Swiss are generally top heavy in terms of NHL upside, and we have no problem putting Stadler at the very top of their 2016 draft eligible totem pole.

Roger Karrer (D) (150 – 200)

  • McKeen’s:  a tremendous skater with very good first steps as well as solid mobility .. able to make abrupt stops at full speed and can make a quick change of direction to shake off an opposing forechecker – all while maintaining good control of the puck .. plays a smart and calm game – rarely over-reacting while moving the puck out of his zone to launch a new attack .. not overly large by NHL standards at 5-foot-11 – and will need to improve his physical play as he doesn’t involve his body at all for his hitting game .. does compete though – and isn’t afraid to go into the corners and battle for pucks, even if he lacks the strength yet to have a chance and relies mainly on using an active stick instead of his body .. does possess all the tools to become a very good puckmoving defenceman

Long Shots:
Simon Kindschi (D) final draft eligible year he played in the Swiss Elite league.  He’s a big defenseman (6’3) was captain and assistant captain at international tournaments for the Swiss. He was named one of the top players on his team at this years World Juniors.
Martin Krempasky (D) a big right hand shot defenseman.
Maksims Ponomarenko (D) second year draft eligible player.  He has good size, a long shot to get drafted.
Andrej Hatala (D) second year draft eligible player.  He’s a small right hand shot defenseman with good hockey IQ.
Lukas Kälble (D) big 6’2 defenseman with strong offensive instincts.
